Venterra Farms is located in Southern California, and the rich, fertile soils of the area have been farmed by five generations of the Terry family. Our mission has always been to grow, harvest, and care for our crops with integrity and sustainability, and we strive to ensure high quality, organic, and non-GMO produce, which conforms to our farm-to-table commitment to our customers.

Our hemp flower has been cultivated for many years at Venterra Farms. Originally, it was used as a sustainable method of conserving water, as growing the hemp plant along with the usual traditional row crops helps to reduce pressure on the water table by about 70%.

When the production of hemp was recently legalized by the Farm Bill in 2018, Venterra Farms were able to use our 125 years of experience, patience, and practice to add our carefully cultivated full-spectrum hemp to the list of clean, safe products that we offer our customers.

Our CBD products are made organically using only the flower portion of the plant, implementing our state of the art extraction technology, and developing optimum formulation in consultation with experts and doctors. Five generations have perfected our farm-to-table commitment, but what exactly does “farm-to-table” mean?

What Does “Farm-To-Table” Mean?

The concept of “farm-to-table” dates back to the 1960s and 1970s and is generally a term used in the foodservice industry. As a result of the growth in large-scale farming and an increase in the importation of food and other goods from outside the country, consumers became increasingly dissatisfied with the quality, nutritional value, and the safety of many of the products that were available to them.

The farm-to-table movement that began around this time sought to support local farmers who were cultivating their crops using more natural methods. Since the food was not being transported over long distances, it was picked at the peak of its freshness. This guaranteed a high-quality product for consumers and contributed to boosting the local economy.

The Pros of Farm-to-Table

Those in the foodservice industry that are part of the farm-to-table movement benefit in many ways. Customers often develop close relationships with the farmers that they purchase their products from and so are able, in turn, to provide solid guarantees about the quality and safety to their customers and clients.

There is also a wider benefit to the environment. As the farms are locally sourced, the food does not have to be shipped for long periods or over great distances. As well as an improvement in the quality of the food, less fuel is used in the transport of the product and so less greenhouse gases are emitted into the atmosphere.

Why is Farm-to-Table so Important for CBD Products?

In the same way that quality and safety cannot always be guaranteed in the foodservice industry, there are varying standards of CBD products on the market. Formulations of hemp flower oil and CBD oil are not all the same, and knowing about the origin and expertise of the producer can help you to make a more informed choice.

At Venterra Farms, we have control of our CBD products from ‘seed to sale’. From the day that the seeds are planted, through the cultivation process, and onto the extraction and production of our oils, we can completely ensure that every effort is made to create an organic, toxin-free product.

CBD and Hemp Flower Oil: How are Our Products Created?

After sourcing only the highest quality hemp plants, they are cultivated in our fertile, Southern California soils without pesticides or any genetically modified organisms (GMOs). When the hemp is ready to harvest, it is collected and stored in a temperature and humidity controlled environment until it is dried and ready to be sent to the extraction laboratory.

At Venterra Farms, we use a method of extraction called subcritical extraction. This method uses CO2 to create pressure that results in removing the phyto-cannabinoids from the plants. Phyto-cannabinoids are naturally occurring chemical compounds that interact with the human body’s natural cannabinoid receptors (which we all have!).

The CO2 extraction method leaves the finished product free of residual solvents, which means that the hemp oil that is released is clean and safe. It is also an environmentally friendly extraction method, and is safer for those who are conducting the process.

The hemp oil that results from this process is called ‘full-spectrum’ hemp oil. Any products that are made from this will benefit from all of the phyto-cannabinoids that are available in the hemp plant. This type of oil is the most effective, and will yield the most potential benefits to the customer.
